About Arman Sood: Arman Sood, Co-Founder of Sleepy Owl
Arman ventured into entrepreneurship during his college days. This was when he met Ashwajeet Singh (co-founder). Sleepy Owl wasn’t their first business idea. The duo ran a startup selling unique imported party accessories online. College was over and everyone went their own way. Arman started working in Mumbai where he was joined by Ashwajeet who quit his first job to couchsurf with him.The deal was, if the duo came up with a business idea, Arman would quit his job.
At the same point in another time zone, Ajai (co-founder) was discovering coffee from a new perspective while working as an investment banker in New York.
Once the idea was planted and their mutual love and passion for real coffee was realized, Arman’s resignation was next on agenda. Both Arman and Ajai handed in their resignation letters and the A team assembled to get down to work.
Arman set off on a reconnaissance trip to Chikmagalur in Karnataka, noted for its coffee farms. While there, he discovered that there is a sizable untapped market in India for Cold Brew Coffee. Similar to how wine is sold in the US, Sleepy Owl began selling the same in a bag and box format and delivered fresh batches every morning to a loyal customer base. This kicked off the launch of Sleepy Owl Coffee in 2016.
Today, the brand stands 8 years strong with a strong and vast product portfolio. DSG Consumer Partners backed Sleepy Owl Coffee’s vision with a seed funding round in 2018, and was thereafter supported by Rukam Capital in the second round of $1.5mn. In 2021, Sleepy Owl raised $6.5 million in Series A funding.
Arman is the man who makes it happen. When a customer places an order, it is his team that ensures the best quality coffee is packaged and delivered to them, in time.
The man alone can chart out delivery routes, manage packaging and delivery, and smoothen out logistics at the Sleepy Owl factory.
Now when he looks back at their 8 year journey, Arman feels that there’s so much he has achieved and yet so much left to do. .
