Experience: Curated Walkthrough Of The MAP With Kamini Sawhney (Bengaluru)
Our Bangalore members explored the expanse of women’s representation in art at Museum of Art & Photography (MAP) Bangalore for a pre-opening special preview, curated and led by Kamini Sawhney. We got an exclusive walk-through of their headline exhibit VISIBLE/INVISIBLE, which took two years to put together, where Kamini Sawhney helped us deftly unravel the poignant and layered narrative behind the nuanced works of art. She shared stories about how each piece was curated, the story it tells, and what led the female artists to create this influential and important piece of work, that aims to be a harbinger of societal change.
The evening inspired captivating conversations over coffee and canapes with MAP Bangalore‘s curators and archivists about women’s representation during pivotal moments in history and now at the cusp of modernity. The dynamic dialogues even entailed the invisible labour women put at home and at work and how sexuality is interpreted in everyday life. The museum is truly inclusive with art being converted into tactile and auditory experiences with accessibility at the core.
Our first Bengaluru event of 2023 brought on a new perspective and purpose for our Bengaluru members, as they meaningfully celebrated our community over their mutual love for art.
